In 2015, Agon Environmental began with just a handful of passionate experts and a big vision: to deliver smarter, more sustainable solutions to Australia’s environmental challenges. From the very beginning, our focus was clear, technical excellence, integrity, and a commitment to supporting our clients on their most complex projects. Today, we are a national leader in environmental consulting, shaping major infrastructure projects and solving some of the industry’s most complex challenges.
Building Momentum
From those early beginnings, Agon quickly transformed into a national presence, marked by a series of defining milestones that shaped our growth and reputation.
- 2015 – Official Launch & Early Wins
We opened our Adelaide and ACT offices, secured a $750K groundwater monitoring contract with BroadSpectrum, and welcomed several senior experts to the team. These early achievements set a strong foundation for future success. - 2016 – Expanding North & Raising Standards
Our Darwin office was established, and we achieved ISO accreditation for 9001, 14001, and 45001. The launch of our first NATA-accredited laboratory revolutionised the speed and precision of our testing services, as our team grew from eight to around 15. - 2017 – First Major Infrastructure Project
Agon secured its first landmark infrastructure contract, the West Gate Tunnel Project, a defining milestone that marked our entry into large-scale, high-profile developments. - 2018 – Entering Melbourne
With Darren Edwards joining as Technical Executive, we opened our Melbourne office. Expanding into one of Australia’s most dynamic markets strengthened our infrastructure expertise and grew our team to 22. - 2019 – Long-Term Government Contracts
Key hires in South Australia and Victoria bolstered our leadership, and we secured a five-year asbestos management contract with the NT Government, showcasing our trusted capability in environmental risk management. - 2020 – Resilience in Uncertain Times
Even during the pandemic, Agon thrived, growing 50% in one year while welcoming new leadership in the Northern Territory and continuing to deliver on major projects. - 2022 – North East Link Project
Secures tunnel spoil testing for the West Gate Tunnel Project. We’re appointed for Contamination Services on the $10B North East Link Project. Helen King joins, enhancing remediation planning expertise. Team expands to 42. - 2024 – North South Corridor Project & Suburban Rail Loop Secured
Agon wins contamination management for the North South Corridor Project (Adelaide), starting 2025. Agon secures technical services for the Suburban Rail Loop – Works Package D. - 2025 – Expanding into Queensland
Agon expanded into Queensland, combining local knowledge with national expertise. Led by Principals Steven Sherrington and Nathan Scholes, the team delivers services in contaminated land, agricultural wastewater, HAZMAT assessments, and risk and compliance advisory across the state.
These milestones not only marked our expansion but also laid the foundation for our role in shaping some of Australia’s most significant infrastructure projects, including the West Gate Tunnel, North East Link, Suburban Rail Loop, and North South Corridor Project.
Expanding Our Expertise
Over the past decade, our services have evolved to meet the growing needs of clients across Australia. What began with a focus on contamination and HAZMAT assessments has expanded into specialised areas including: groundwater monitoring, mould investigations, and large-scale environmental risk management.
A cornerstone of this growth has been the establishment of three NATA-accredited laboratories in Adelaide, Darwin, and Melbourne. These labs deliver the highest standards of testing and compliance, supporting projects of every scale. Our laboratory services include:
- Airborne Fibre Monitoring (AFM)
- Bulk Asbestos Identification
- Asbestos in Soils Analysis
- Serpentine & Crystalline Silica Identification (XRD)
By combining technical expertise with reliable testing, we provide fast, accurate, and practical results that help clients manage risk, ensure compliance, and make confident decisions.
A Team That Sets Us Apart
At the heart of Agon’s success is our people. What began as a small team of four has grown into a national network of industry experts, united by a culture defined by honesty and integrity, strengthened through collaboration and teamwork, and driven by a shared commitment to client success.
This culture has shaped not only how we work but also how we’ve grown, organically, sustainably, and with a long-term vision.
Looking Ahead: 2025 and Beyond
“Looking ahead, Agon is focused on further growth, expanding into international markets, continuing to push technical excellence, and staying true to the values that have defined us. We are building something that lasts, not just for the next five years, but for generations to come.” – John Iddles, CEO
As we celebrate our 10 year anniversary, we’re not slowing down. The next decade will see Agon expanding further across Australia, stepping into international markets, and continuing to deliver innovative solutions to the environmental challenges of tomorrow.
