Agon is assisting the NT Live Exporters Association (NT LEA) to manage organic waste produced at the Berrimah Live Export Yard with a view to improve site practices and mitigate potential environmental liability. Agon’s engagement aims were to demonstrate compliance under the Waste Management and Pollution Control Act (NT) 1998, through evaluating:
  • The source, types, nature, chemical/ biological composition, mobility, and offsite pathways of waste and associated chemical and biological stressors,
  • Ecological risks associated with the above,
  • The ability of existing management systems to prevent pollution or environmental harm,
  • The extent to which additional actions are required to be taken to prevent pollution or environmental harm.
Through a detailed evaluation of source-pathway-receptor linkages, we were able to develop practical and cost-effective operational management/ mitigation measures to improve the overall efficacy of the stormwater and wastewater system. Concurrently, we were able to reassess and redevelop the site’s monitoring program, rationalisation of which has led to a reduced monitoring program and cost savings for our client.
