Agon was engaged to support various aspects of contamination and waste management across parts of the North East Link Project, including historic landfill sites impacted by asbestos-containing materials and other contaminants such as hydrocarbons and biological waste. Agon’s experienced team prepared management plans to guide the overarching approach to Acid Sulfate Soils, Asbestos, and spoil management. Our work included the classification of waste materials to support the appropriate disposal or reuse of excavated spoil, with a focus on minimising landfill disposal. We developed a practical approach in collaboration with a licensed removalist, systematically reclassifying impacted soils, enabling significant cost savings. Further opportunities were identified to repurpose metals and concrete materials.
Agon’s work delivered more than $5 million in cost savings by reclassifying contaminated soils and reducing disposal costs. By establishing impact zones and supervising excavations, we reduced the volume of soil sent to landfill. Our team also supported circular economy principles by identifying opportunities to recycle and reuse materials across the project.
Agon worked closely with Spark D&C JV / Contractor’s Alliance, WorkSafe, EPA, and other contractors to develop robust and practical procedures for the management of contamination and spoil.
All work was completed to regulatory standards, approved by the Regulators, and endorsed by the Auditor.
